hello everyone! it's been more than a year since anyone visited this godforsaken blog.

but because i have so 'efficiently finished' my work. the other interns and i are now waiting for the release bell at 630pm.

anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyy i've been reading some of the past entries (especially those in j1), and it really brings back many fond jc memories =)

let me just post an entry to hopefully revive our dust-collecting blog a little bit.

it's confirmed. o level results will be out this fri(9 feb), so that means there is a possibility that OUR results will be released next fri, and that so happens to be cny eve. how nice can things get? i don't know how u guys are feeling right now, anxious? worried? relieved? excited? or perhaps even euphoric?? as for me, i was feeling kinda nervous and anxious just now, but now it seems that there isn't very much i can do about it... and that kinda sucks. 2 years of hard work/slogging/irritating tys/stress; it's all gg to be on ONE sheet of paper that more or less determines ur entire life -gulps- ok i am getting quite worried again.

i just wish we could just check our results online instead of gg back to school.. the anxiety level would probably escalate to very intimidating levels. or perhaps not, considering 90% of the pple expect no less than 4As. ok that doesn't help very much.

all i can wish for now is to enjoy a happy cny. hopefully moe can be nice for once.

CLASS CHALET

hope u're enjoying ur hols rite now...
anyway we finally managed to bk a chalet at Costa Sands (Pasir Ris) from 5th - 7th Jan 2007 (thanx to zh for that)
its friday to sunday so even if u're working u shld be able to come and join us! =)

anyway its a double-storey one, just like last yr, so we can fit in more ppl comfortably...

as for unit no. and all that i don't think we know yet so check back here like a few days before the chalet dates...

bbq shld be on the 1st nite tentatively so yeah do come down and join us after ur work on friday!

cost wise i'm not sure yet cause it actually depends on how much we spend on the bbq but it shldn't be more than 15 so don't worry abt that...
well if u're that cash-strapped then there's like 2 wks for u to start working and earn that $15 =)

okay there's abt all for now... anything juz sms me or smth...

Malaysia Trip

this trip bit tricky.cos we're venturing into the unknown.hahaha.here's the details.

trip is tentatively on coming tues (12th dec).we can meet at kranji mrt den take bus 170 down all the way to m'sia.pls bring passport n ringgits.make sure ur passport got at least 3 months validity.

we will prolly spend the day walking ard n shopping n eating.haha.chaoqun offered to be foodie tour guide.mebbe he can be in charge of this trip?personally, i dunno my way there at all.so if there's anyone who can lead us ard, pls lemme know asap or tag here kk?btw, it's the year-end-sale over there now.so i guess it's a good time to get stuffs there oso.if u guys got suggestions as to wad we can do there, do lemme know/tag too alright?thx a million!!!

Cost: $16+++ -> $20 approx. AND xtra money for cab down to cine if needed ($30 shld be a safe amount)
Note:
1. girls can bring jackets or any other necessary stuff to keep themselves warm cause it may be quite cold there (erm can try stuffing one into ur handbag haha)

1st of all congrats to almost everyone who has finished their A'lvls!
rite its finally over...
as for those who have s papers...
juz mug for a few more days yeah... all the best for ur papers!

anyway main point here is post prom...
instead of an endless tussle between kbox and chalet... lets juz go with the majority okay?
so now we 'll put it tentatively as KBOX...
if u've some fantastic idea as to wat else we can possibly do at a chalet after prom... pls let me know by next monday, if not it 'll be confirmed KBOX!
eh i guess other concrete and sensible ideas r welcomed but all by nxt monday pls...

we still 've 217.20 worth of class fund with us and i'm thinking we 'll use it for either post-prom or smth else...
so if we re going kbox after post prom, the money will be used to book another chalet some other time or smth along that line

ur frenly neighbourhood spider here. last time, i sent u all a sms abt the essay topics for last yr bio paper2.. if tt causes any of u to abandon studying ecology for ur essay, sorry abt tt.. surprised to see ecology coming out as an essay agn this yr. haaha. but they test on diff things la.. mayb i shall b more specific this time rd.. hmm.. ya.. if u guys' tys dun hav the 2005 essay qns for paper 3.. here's wad they asked last yr..

(a)(i) Describe the process of cloning of plants from tissue culture. [7]
(ii) Explain why such cloning is a type of asexual reproduction. [5]
(iii) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of asexual reproduction in organisms in natural ecosystem. [8]

Or

Once agn, things tt hav come out before may come out agn.. jus like "Define Relative Atomic Mass" which has come out for so many consecutive yrs (perhaps tt is the most basic fundamental concept to chem?).. ya.. so be careful when spotting qns.. oh n also..jus a reminder.. if u really got the time.. mayb u wan to go thro the core topics agn.. cos cambridge likes to cross link wif the core topics... like last yr paper 3 structured.. they ask abt the importance of reduced NADP in the process of photosynthesis n the role of negative feedback in homeostatis ya.. so.. :D Good Luck, ppl.. the no. of days to freedom is countable by your fingers.. the end is coming really soon.. 1. If there are any additions/deletions/others to be made to ur cca record, pls go to emb/ivle to dl a template form.
2. Fill in the appropriate blanks in the template form and obtain any necessary signatures. Attach it to ur cca record.
3. Uniform grps members are to submit a separate involvement record from ur alma-mater, endorsed by the relevant teacher-in-charge. (contact no. and email of teacher-in-charge to be included)
4. Sign against ur name on the cca record before u hand it in
5. Pass ur CCA record to me by nxt tuesday (12/10/2006).

LOL! finally after so long, someone posted on the cls blog. so to celebrate it, i shall sacrifice my sleep and post a reply to bean's entry. it's kinda true how our blog is rotting so badly that it would probably take ages for someone to realise it's still running =(

anyway, i almost forgot abt the sushi voucher! yupzzzzzz let's go eat sushi! maybe we can eat during the chalet? does sakae have delivery service? hehe. or u guys can walk out to buy sushi la, oh wait. better not. the sushi will be in peril.

i opened my inbox just now and was surprised to have received an email from jeff. i'm sure most of u in class have received it too. but all the same, i think the little stories that mr valles sent to jeff are really inspirational and it really makes us halt in our tracks and think a little more of the seemingly trivial matters around us. After all, everyone matters, no matter how big or small they are. i'm not sure abt the rest of you, but i personally enjoy reading such anecdotes, it really makes my day sometimes =)

Five (5) lessons to make you think about the way we
treat people.

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?" Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how w ould I know her name?
I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say "hello."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960's. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab. She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached..

It read: "Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away... God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others."

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
"How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked.
"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.
"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired.
By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient.
"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied.
The little boy again counted his coins.
"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress came back, sh e began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies..
You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand!
Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare &serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister.
I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded.
He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away".
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

erm, as for the venue, it's either marina sq or orchard. btw, just to let the jnrs know, marina sq is one of our cls' fav hangout coz it has almost everything and it's really nice and new. haha. it has gv, bowling, arcade, pool, kbox, shops, restaurants etc. the only problem is it's a little inconvenient to go home from there... must walk through citylink to reach cityhall mrt.

Story of Ah Boy and doudou

Strangers they were, unaware of each other's presence. Many times they have brushed shoulders in streets of random ppl, but yet they do not even know each others' names..

Both of them have different hobbies. doudou (the junior) loves to party with his frens and play ball games. However, hardworking Ah Boy (the senior) is constantly mugging notes, TYS and model answers to prepare for his A levels. Although deep down inside, he wish that he got go out and have fun as well.poor thing..

Then one fine day, doudou first noticed Ah Boy at his class bench on the 1st day of school. Seems like Ah Boy is from the senior class, 05S72. (notice the blue 'recycling bin at the left) They were pretty shy at 1st, but they were really keen about knowing more about each other..

Before long, they broke that barrier and became the best of friends. They spent much of their time tgt at events such as campfire night, whereby they watched the awesome faculty dance tgt. Besides, they had such a great time with singing, cheering and dancing their hearts out. :D:D

1. What is the most outrageous thing ever done?

Haha it's more dumb than outrageous but there was one time when I was on a bus with a few of my friends. They were talking about pole-dancing and naturally I didn't know what they were talking about. So one of them asked me to demonstrate pole-dancing and I took them LITERALLY. So I grabbed bus pole and did a little jig around it. ^_^

2. What do you want to be in the future?

I'll miss playing in an ensemble but yong siew toh is way above me. So right now I hope to be a dentist

3. What do grades mean to you?

They're not that important actually. I hope to do well and everything but if I don’t, then too bad I guess =P

4. Why do I always see you online so late at night? Haha

I'm a night owl! Even if I'm very tired during the day, once it hits about 10pm or so I'll come to life and then there's no way I can get to sleep. So I'd rather stay online haha. Anyway it's also nice being up alone at night because everything's so quiet. There's this dark mist that seems to cover all the buildings and trees outside and the feeling's quite peaceful actually.

5. Describe your ideal performance.

One without mistakes!! Haha it's rare for me to not screw up at least one passage during a performance so it feels good to be able to go backstage and not tell your section leader "I missed out one bar!" =P

It's also nice when the ensemble finishes off and the audience shouts 'ENCORE!' over and over again. And not because our friends were planted there before the start of the performance.

It's also my dream to perform one day in esplanade with a full orchestra and play a symphony. Although that's highly unlikely haha.

But my favourite part of a concert is actually the last hour before the performance itself. Because nobody remembers the actual performance itself. The last hour's when everyone gathers to have dinner and change before going backstage. Nobody really eats much and most of the time is just spent talking and talking. After that everything goes in a whiz and before you know it, concert's over!

Post-concert time is very memorable too. Everyone's grinning permanently (unless we did really badly) and nobody feels like going home or sleeping. And when we finally get chased home, everyone's online talking about the concert!

6. What’s your secrets to achieving good grades? =P

Haha I just look through my notes and make sure I understand what the words are saying. And of course, hope that what I don't know won't come out =P

7. What are your interests/hobbies?

I like reading. If I find a book I like I'll read it non-stop until I finish it. Ice-skating's fun too. Don't really go out often but when I do, it's usually for concerts or to meet up with my friends. Guess I'm quite a boring person =P

1. Erm quite a few actually. TV, reading, watching and playing soccer, chapteh and most recently Icy Tower!
2. Easy question. Gunbound.
3. Swimming! Even though I dun do it often. Soccer, chapteh, frisbees okae, floorball and of cuz cyber sports =)
4. To be realistic, I would sae that I get along well wif most of them. Some of them it could be a tad patchy bcuz of past misunderstandings or friction. Its partially my fault and I have changed my attitude. All I ask is for them to understand. The doors always open on my side. I treat them all nicely and sincerely. For the rest its been good bah.
5. No purpose. Juz for fun. If anybody is in any way amused, entertained or plain disgusted, I m flattered.
6. Well I tink its great that our class is so competitive and we try our best to be the best in every competition that we take part in or studies. We also have a good mix of comedians, aspiring chemists, bimbos, save-the-world heros, tai-tais, wushu exponents, sport stars, gamers, zhai people, hot babes(lol), muggers(oops), hunks and chunks.
7. I was laughing out loud. No really, It was quite comical cuz I witnessed the whole thing but I was tinking like anyone else would if u were okae cuz I sorta saw the fire shot out =X Careful next time
8. It changes from time to time but currently its business? I sorta got the passion for it and for other reasons
9. Restricted zone lol. I myself m confused about it. I dunno my heart. But all I can sae is that I do get insanely jealous sometimes if u get wad I mean over her antics. But I tink its juz “hao gan” no feeling.

hihi pple! it's me -again- it's the last weekday of the sept hols and everyone probably spent their time studying for promos. sigh.

Juz to remind you guys that there is a chem quiz on monday. Yea right when sch reopens. There are two quizzes apparently. 1st one 15-20 minutes MCQ + Short questions. The 2nd one is pure MCQ.

Topics tested: Equilibria, electrochem, electrolysis and intro to organic chem.

For electrolysis, if i m not wrong it also includes the independent module on the last page of the notes. Not too sure about that.

Also, plz remember to do your Chem SPA "Fun" Exercise on Aromatherapy oils i tinkz. SPA is on Term 4, week 2. Ms Ooi has already said that if u all dun do then she wun go thru la. So i m sure everybody wants revision for SPA as it is quite important. So plz do ya.

glad you all were supportive of my brownies today. and really glad you all liked it. haha. and just to clarify matters - i did not use any instant brownie mixture or sth, i baked it MYSELF. yupz, so you should be convinced that i did not cheat getting an 'A' for home econs in sec 2. haha.
as most of you should know by now, i would be getting the money from the class fund, but jeff wouldn't give me the money coz he doesn't have any. sigh. so can those pple who have yet to pay up class fund do so asap? i need to claim my money from him soon!

hi pple, emilia here. i know it's kinda late to post this entry, but i just decided to try my luck anyway.
as most of you should have known by now, i will be baking brownies to sell to raise club funds for network. each brownie will charged at $1.50 each, so it's quite cheap, considering i use herseys chocolate.
i just baked the brownies in the afternoon, so it's still quite fresh and nice! shall be bringing them tmr to sell. and i guarantee it's damn nice! so please buy it!
it would be great if the whole class agrees to buy a piece each; considering that more than half the class has agreed to buy my brownies, i think it's quite a realistic aim. if so, i will just collect the money from the class fund and i can save the trouble of asking the money from each of you XP

just to let u guys know that the taiwan girl im attached to will be joining me in hwachong on monday (1st Aug) all the way to 12 Aug ! she will be coming to a few of our lessons, and on the other days the school has special programmes lined up for them.

i was thinking, maybe we can have a class outing like to kbox or pool or bowling or something that i can bring her to? cz from 8 Aug to 10 Aug its the school holidays so i will have to bring her out. if she likes to sing i think kbox is cool! i will update the class more, cz i think it depends alot on her character yea?

As all of you know, there will be economics make-up lessons on the 20th and 27th of july (both are Wednesdays) from10.40am to 11.20am. The venue has been decided. On both days, we will have to migrate to A404 for lessons. I know it's inconvenient and dumb but the comp lab technicians only gave me the A block classrooms for booking. Booking has been done. Clarification

Okae, according to Jeffrey and the EMB, the kinetics test is stated to be during a tutorial lesson during 18-22 july.

Thus this is in direct contrast to the info i have and wad other people have learned about too.
Hence, i am not really sure if there is going to be a kinetics test during the chem lecture this week.

Even though the IVLE states that the test will be during the 1st lecture period, but the EMB contradicts it by stating that it is during the tutorial session. However, the EMB message is more recent as it is stated as 1st July which is only a few days ago. Whereas the IVLE is quite outdated. Thanx to spidermedic for this info. So perhaps there has been a change of plans. I m not too sure. I tink we should trust spidermedic on this bah.

Okae so for those that have studied, u can stop studying now if you can trust the EMB. Dont come and blame mi tml when you have studied hard and there is no test. For those who haven started studying, good for you lol.

Thats all i got to say, sorry for all this confusion. Dun really noe wad is going on too, teacher oso nvr sae anyting about it.

Hi everyone, anyway me and my juniors are on this citibank YMCA youth for causes project where we are raising funds and awareness for CARE (children -at - risk empowerment) and we need volunteers for our balloon gardens cum roadshows on sats and some sundays in the month of august.

Essentially, we need volunteers to help as set up the booth, for these volunteers they would get to learn balloon scrupturing. We have engaged the help of a professional balloon scrupture, hes super pro, and does like balloon deco for events such as the current IOC meeting in Singapore. Anyway the second type of volunters would be those who would help in selling the notebooks and balloons during the days of our events, which will be as follows
30th july parkway parade and marine cove
6th and 7th july plaza singapura
16th and 17th imm building

There will be 2 more weekends where we will be at suntac, citylink mall, tampines mall and orchard but its not comfirmed yet coz the management have yet to revert to us with regards to exact locations. Anyway prephaps we could do it as a class thing and go out for dinner afterthat.Anyway we aim to raise $50,000 for CARE, so it be great if you could ask your parents if they would like to support us in form of donations or corporate sponsorship as well.
